Bhopal: Travel through Bhopal railway station is set to become faster, smoother, and more organised as the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) plans a major redevelopment of the station into a modern transit hub.
Instead of the current crowded setup, the redesigned station is expected to improve passenger flow with separate arrival and departure zones to reduce congestion. Wider circulating areas and upgraded platforms are planned to ease movement, particularly during busy hours.
For daily commuters and long-distance travellers, the changes aim to reduce delays and improve convenience. New foot-over-bridges, escalators, lifts, and travelators will make it easier to move between platforms, especially for elderly passengers, families with luggage, and divyangjan.
The plan includes a new station building with an entrance porch, expanded circulating areas, and upgraded platforms 1 to 6. Improvements are also proposed for toilets, waiting halls, and ticket counters, along with accessibility features such as escalators and lifts.
"RLDA is directly handling the redevelopment work at the Bhopal station. It will be a complete facelift," said Bhopal division PRO Nawal Agarwal.
Passenger amenities are also set to be upgraded, with modern waiting lounges, improved sanitation facilities, better ticketing arrangements, and larger waiting areas. A food plaza, cafeterias, and retail outlets are also part of the plan.
Wayfinding inside the station is expected to improve through clearer signage, better lighting, and upgraded audio systems to reduce confusion. The redevelopment also includes commercial spaces and designated public-use areas, along with improved integration with other transport modes and expanded parking to support last-mile connectivity.
