“There were no explosives inside the device. It was intended to trigger panic by terrorising commuters. It is a cognizable offence,” said an investigating officer.
Apart from make of so-called bomb like devices, handwriting in letters, which were written in English and found near both spots, appear same.
On November 20, the device, suspected to be a bomb, found close to Meja Road station, about 40 km from Allahabad had sent police and railway officials into a tizzy. Train traffic on busy Delhi-Howrah route was affected for a period following detection of device at a spot close to tracks.
A letter found from the spot reads “This is not a real bomb, but if we do not get Rs 2 crore from MD of Alson company, it will be a real one next time.”

While investigators were groping in dark about his bomb, another bomb and a threat letter was found near toilet of Mumbai-bound Mahanagri Express near Satna railway station. Letter was addressed to railway minister Suresh Prabhu. It reads “To The Rail MINISTER 10 cr required in instalment ...
Reason—After Rail Accident no one can get any accommodation… 10 cr—1,000 family, it’s revolution… Say yes hang a PIC of Modi in S 5, S 4 sleeper class of the train no—12397, 13201… And get remaining plan in Mumbai Police Station in Valvet”. Bomb disposal squad (BDS) exploded the device at Manikpur railway station in Chitrakoot much before experts from MP or UP could have examined its components.
ATS of both Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are working on the case in coordination with officials of central intelligence agencies. An FIR has been registered at Government Railway Police’s Manikpur police station on charges of attempt to murder, extortion, sedition and under the Explosive Act. Police have invoked sections 150 and 152 of the Railway Act.
