One killed, another critical after retd BSF jawan, associates, open fire in Gwalior
Gwalior: One person was killed and another critically injured after a retired BSF jawan and his associates allegedly opened indiscriminate fire in Gwalior’s Maharajpura area on Wednesday morning.
The firing took place around 10.30 am on Patari Road in the Maharajpura police station area, the police said, adding that 15 to 20 rounds were allegedly fired.
The prime accused was identified as Vishnu Dubey, a retired BSF personnel, who was arrested late Wednesday evening. A search was underway for his accomplices.
Further, according to the police, the attack followed a long-running dispute between the two sides over dumping of sand on government land.
Officials said the firing incident was preceded by an altercation that broke out between the groups earlier in the day, before turning into an exchange of verbal abuse.
Investigating officers said Mahendra alias Bhola Gurjar and his father-in-law, Satyabhan Gurjar, were travelling along Patari Road when they were allegedly surrounded by the accused riding a motorcycle.
Before they could react, the accused allegedly opened fire from pistols and countrymade firearms, the police said, adding that both victims sustained bullet injuries and collapsed on the road.
They were rushed to the trauma centre at Jayarogya Hospital, where Bhola succumbed to excessive blood loss during treatment, while Satyabhan underwent surgery to remove bullets and was on ventilator support thereafter, doctors said.
A case of murder and attempt to murder was registered against Dubey and his associates, the police said, adding that searches were underway to nab the remaining accused.
