Murder convict, 58, found dead in Bhopal Central Jail, probe on
Bhopal: A 58-year-old inmate serving a life sentence for murder was found hanging from a tree inside the cowshed of Bhopal Central Jail on Sunday afternoon. The deceased, identified as Guddu Adivasi, a resident of Bari in Raisen district, had been lodged in the jail since 2017 after being convicted in a murder case and was assigned work at the jail's cow shelter, officials said. According to jail authorities, the incident came to light around 4:30 pm when guards on routine rounds noticed the inmate hanging from a tree with a rope inside the gaushala area. He was immediately brought down but was found unresponsive. Jail superintendent Rakesh Bhangre said preliminary information suggests the inmate may have taken his own life. He added that Guddu had been suffering from an illness, though the exact nature of his condition was not disclosed. However, sources indicated that the inmate had recently been involved in an altercation with a jail official over an unspecified issue. The jail administration has not officially confirmed this aspect. Cops from Gandhinagar police station reached the spot soon after being informed, conducted a panchnama and sent the body to Hamidia Hospital for post-mortem. Officials said the post-mortem will be carried out on Monday under the supervision of a magistrate and in the presence of the deceased's family members, given the sensitive nature of the case. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an inquiry to establish the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
