JABALPUR: Amid allegations of oxygen and bed shortage in hospitals, locals in Jabalpur are now demanding complete lockdown to prevent Covid-19 infection from spreading further in the city.

More than 5,878 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Jabalpur so far-—this was only 1304 on July

31. City Congress president Dinesh Yadav alleged that forget the government hospitals, patients are not being admitted even in private hospitals without any connection with higher officials or politicians. “An office bearer of the party had died during treatment. He was admitted at the Netaji Subhash Medical College and hospital, before death he had made a video and send it to me wherein he complained about lack of facilities and his falling health. There is acute shortage of oxygen, ventilators and beds in hospitals”, Yadav alleged.

An office bearer of Jabalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Prem Dubey said, “We have submitted a memorandum to the district collector demanding total lockdown in the city between September 15 and 22. There is acute shortage of resources at government hospitals and private hospitals are out of reach for the poor and needy. So lockdown is the only option to break the chain of Covid-19 spread. We have also urged our local trader associations that if there is a spurt in cases in their markets, they could themselves shut their markets to contain the spread”.
