Bhopal: A case of alleged celebratory firing during a wedding function at a farmhouse in Parwalia area came to light on Wednesday.
After a video of the firing went viral on social media, Parwalia police registered a case and arrested the accused, a property broker from Gandhi Nagar, under the BNS and Arms Act.
Parwalia SHO Harishankar Verma said the wedding function was organised at a farmhouse belonging to the in-laws of the man. During the wedding procession, he allegedly fired a shot in the air using a country-made pistol while dancing with the baraat.
During interrogation, the man failed to produce any valid license. He claimed that due to his profession as a property broker, he felt the need to keep a firearm and had purchased the pistol illegally. Police said that the accused has no prior criminal record.
