BHOPAL: Incensed that the girl he loved was marrying elsewhere, a 26-year-old man barged into her home, shot her, her cousin and a teenage neighbour dead and then killed himself in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul district on Saturday afternoon.
The shooter,
Bhanu Thakur, shared an ‘I’m-goingto-do-this’ video of himself with friends just before the killings, explaining his ‘motive’, and even naming the person from whom he bought two countrymade pistols.
By the time anyone could react to it, four persons lay dead.
The murders took place between 3pm and 3.30pm at Bhawani Nagar area, about 40km from Betul district HQ. Bhanu’s victims were identified as Barkha Soni, 22, her cousin Bunty, 22, and neighbour Lucky, 18, who was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Barkha was pursuing her BSc and Bhanu was a truck driver.
Bhanu made the video an hour before the incidentIt appears relationship issues led to the incident. Bhanu wanted to marry Barkha – they knew each other for a long time -- but their families were not willing. During investigation, we learnt that Barkha was going to marry elsewhere,” Betul SP Simala Prasad told TOI.
Bhanu made the video an hour before the incident and shared it with acquaintances on social media, said the SP. In the video, he says no one else is responsible for what’s going to happen, and names the man Barkha was engaged to. He got the name of Barkha’s fiancé right, say police, adding that they are continuing with their probe. TNN
