Love, marriage, affair: Man killed by wife’s lover in MP’s Deori; skeleton found 6 months after he went missing

BHOPAL: A chilling murder mystery linked to an illicit relationship was cracked in Deori town of Sagar district, where police recovered the skeleton of a 22-year-old man nearly 6 months after he was reported missing.

The remains were found near a private school ground on the accused’s disclosure.


The victim, Prince Valmiki, a native of Sagar, lived in Deori with his wife before he disappeared on August 20 last year.

Police investigation revealed that Shohaib, a local resident, had a long-standing relationship with the woman that allegedly continued after her marriage.

Shohaib was later arrested and confessed to killing Prince after luring him to the school premises, where he allegedly attacked him after consuming liquor and disposed of the body to destroy evidence.

“The accused Shohaib had a relationship with the wife of the deceased before marriage, which continued after her marriage. So, he considered her husband to be a hurdle and wanted to eliminate him. It is for this reason that he committed the murder. However, our investigation reveals that the wife of the deceased was not involved in the conspiracy to murder; she was not aware of it. A case was registered against Shohaib and investigations are on. DNA tests of the skeleton that was found will also be done,” Deori police station incharge Hari Ram Metkar told TOI.
