Bhopal: BJP veteran Babulal Gaur who is seeking Lok Sabha ticket from Bhopal seat has dared his Congress friend and former chief minister Digvijaya Singh for an electoral bout. He cautioned Digvijaya not to be swayed-in by the challenge thrown by chief minister Kamal Nath stating “winning the saffron bastion is not a cakewalk for Congress.”
Gaur's reaction came after Digvijaya Singh accepted chief minister Kamal Nath's advice to contest Lok Sabha poll from a tough seat, probably Bhopal.
1x1 polls

"I challenge Digvijaya Singh to contest Lok Sabha election from Bhopal. BJP is ready for an electoral bout with him. If Congress believes that Bhopal would be a cakewalk for Digvijaya, my advice to my friend is keep yourself aloof. For him, Bhopal would be a hard nut to crack", Gaur told TOI.
The BJP veteran who achieved a record-smashing feat with 10 victories on the trot from Govindpura assembly seat in Bhopal, also ruled out that he would be the main contender for BJP ticket. His close friendship with Digvijaya Singh is also a known fact and when Gaur recently stated that he has been offered a Congress ticket for Lok Sabha from Bhopal by Digvijaya Singh, it left the state BJP leaders shell-shocked.
Though, Gaur later withdrew his statement and vowed to remain with the saffron party, he didn't give up his stake for a Lok Sabha ticket from Bhopal.
On BJP's sway in Bhopal which comes under Madhya Bharat region, Gaur said the state capital is a saffron bastion with deep rooted presence in rural and urban pockets. Congress would never be successful to make inroads here in the name of `Badlav’ because the issues are almost different and of national interest.

On Saturday, chief minister Kamal Nath while talking to reporters in Chhindwara, had suggested that Digvijaya Singh must choose a tougher seat to contest the Lok Sabha election. On Monday, Digvijaya Singh replied that he was ready to take the challenge and contest from anywhere the Congress party chief wanted.
Gaur was joined by former minister Umashankar Gupta who claimed Bhopal seat is not suitable for Digvijaya Singh. “Because of his image he would lose by a margin of over one lakh votes,” claimed Gupta.
