Life term to man who survived suicide bid after murdering his kids
Bhopal: A trial court in Madhya Pradesh has awarded lifer to a man who had survived a suicide bid after murdering is two daughters and helping his wife kill herself.The case pertains to village Bamhori Renguwan of Motinagar police station area in 2019. Hearing in the case, the court of Fourth Additional Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar sentenced accused Manoj Patel to life imprisonment for twin murders and 10 years rigorous imprisonment for abetting suicide.Additional Public Prosecutor Rajendra Namdev advocated on behalf of the government in the case.According to the prosecution, a case under sections 306, 302, 309 was registered against accused Manoj Patel at Motinagar police station. He is accused of abetting his wife Poonam Kushwaha to commit suicide on the night of November 6 2019. She had hanged herself.Manoj then killed his elder daughter Sonam aged 9 years by hanging her with a rope and strangled his younger daughter Jiya aged 5 months. The accused had also tried to commit suicide by hanging himself, but he was rescued.He was rushed to a hospital in a critical condition. The bodies of his wife Poonam and six-month-old daughter Jiya and another daughter Sonam, 10, were sent for a post mortem examination.Patel’s wife ended her life first by hanging herself from a hook in the ceiling of a room. Manoj helped her and later strangled his daughters to death, police said.Police recovered a suicide note from Manoj’s possession in which Manoj had written that he and his wife had mutually decided to end their lives owing to financial crisis. Patel had left his other daughters, seven-year-old twins, with their grandmother in another house in the neighbourhood on Wednesday night, said the police.Manoj used to work as a wall painter but a few months ago, Manoj joined his father, who takes contracts for farming, and became a farm labourer.The accused was arrested and the challan of the case was presented in the court. The court started hearing in the case. Prosecution produced evidence and documents related to the case. On the basis of evidence, the court sentenced Manoj to life imprisonment and a fine of three thousand rupees.
