Bhopal: A robbery incident was reported in Rajiv Nagar in Housing Board Colony area of Nishatpura on Tuesday morning, where a man suspected to be a construction worker from a nearby site allegedly barged into the house of a 65-year-old woman, an ex-policeman's wife, and attacked her with a stone on the head during the incident.
The woman was found lying in a semi-conscious state by a milkman who came to deliver milk. She suffered a severe head injury and has been admitted to hospital. She also sustained injuries to her ears and eyebrows, suggesting that the suspect snatched her jewellery before fleeing from the spot.
Nishatpura police registered a case in the evening. Police said the woman's earrings were missing, while other valuables are being verified. Sources said gold jewellery worn in her nose, ears and neck was also snatched before the accused escaped.
The woman, Shail Kumari Mishra, 65, was alone at home when the incident took place as her sons were out of town for work. One son is in the Special Armed Forces (SAF) of MP police and is posted outside the state, while the other works in Pune. Both are returning to Bhopal after being informed.
According to police, her husband Devendra Mishra was an assistant sub-inspector in SAF.
The couple has five daughters and two sons, with family members residing nearby or outside the city for work-related reasons.
Police said a school and ongoing construction activity are located nearby, and the suspect, a worker at the site, had earlier visited the house to drink water while working in the area.
On Tuesday around 8.30 am, the accused allegedly entered the house while the woman was having tea, demanded money and, on refusal, forcibly took her inside, assaulted her and later hit her with a stone before snatching jewellery and fleeing the spot.
SHO Manoj Patwa said the milkman found her around 9 am lying injured and alerted her daughter living nearby, following which she was rushed to a private hospital and later shifted to another hospital in Arera Colony.
ACP Akshay Choudhary said CCTV footage from the area is being scanned and a robbery case has been registered.
