Bhopal: A 25-year-old goat herder was dragged for nearly 25 km under a speeding truck after it allegedly ran over his goat and then hit him when he tried to stop the vehicle in Morena district on Saturday morning. The youth died on the spot after his head was crushed, police said.
The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Pahargarh police station when the truck, coming from the Shivpuri side, first ran over a goat grazing along the roadside and then struck the herdsman who attempted to intercept the vehicle. Police identified the deceased as Sonu Dhobi (25), son of Chatai Dhobi, a resident of a village in the Pahargarh police station area.
According to police, Sonu had taken his goats out for grazing on Saturday morning. At around 10am, he was grazing the animals near the roadside when a truck travelling at high speed towards Kailaras, allegedly ran over one of the goats.
Seeing the animal being crushed, Sonu reportedly tried to stop the truck. However, the driver did not slow down and instead hit him, causing the youth to fall and get trapped beneath the vehicle.
Police said Sonu's leg became entangled in the truck and he remained stuck underneath as the driver continued driving recklessly without stopping. The youth was dragged for around 25 kilometres, during which his head was crushed, leading to his death.
Villagers who witnessed the accident immediately alerted the police and also began pursuing the vehicle. Acting swiftly, the Pahargarh police launched a chase and intercepted the truck near Kisaroli village, where the driver was apprehended with the help of locals.
