BHOPAL

: The four-day Losar festival was organised at the IGRMS on Thursday at the Himalaya Village.

For this festival, 20 traditional artists came to the

museum

under the leadership of Sonam Supari from Ladakh.

The celebrations were an amalgamation of ancient rituals, staged dance dramas, the dance of the Ibex

deer

and lots of music, dance and revelry for the people.

Gompa and the various Ladakhi culture were vividly displayed at the fest. This annual exhibition starts with performing rituals for the first three days.

The last day is celebrated as Losar festival.The local tribals are believer of their tribe's customs.

The tribes perform rites to protect their land from any sort of evil eye and any supernatural attack. The local deity is worshipped for the welfare of society.This festival witnesses the local tribal traditions and customs and depicts the social-cultural and native living of the Monpas. Shrikant Gupta, programme coordinator, said: "Losar festival, which has its origin in the 15th century, is a celebration of Ladakhi or Tibetan

New Year

. It is regarded as the most important socio-religious event of Ladakh. Witnessing this beautiful festival is a lifetime experience and it is something to look forward to."
