Jabalpur: Four youths riding a motorcycle were killed on the spot after a speeding car rammed into them near a railway culvert under Badwara police station limits in Katni district late Monday night, police said.
According to police, the motorcycle carrying 4 men collided head-on with a car on NH-43. The impact of the crash was so severe that all 4 riders died instantly, triggering panic among locals who rushed to the spot.
Additional SP Santosh Deheriya said the deceased were identified as Ramkishore Singh, Ramdas Singh, Jitendra Singh and Indrabhan Singh, all residents of neighbouring Umaria district. The group was travelling towards Katni, while the car was headed towards Umaria when the accident occurred.
Police said the victims returned home after picking up 3 friends who recently arrived from Maharashtra when the collision took place.
The car driver also sustained serious injuries in the crash and was rushed to Badwara community health centre, where he is undergoing treatment.
Police reached the spot soon after receiving information about the accident and sent the bodies for post-mortem. A case was registered and further investigation is underway.
Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding and 4 persons riding on a single motorcycle could have contributed to the fatal accident. Police are questioning locals and examining other circumstances surrounding the crash.
