Bhopal: LoP Umang Singhar on Saturday hit out at the
BJP over women's issues, saying the state must fix its own record before claiming credit on reservation
It was easy to take political advantage on women's reservation but the ground realities are extremely harsh, Singhar in a statement.
"The Women's Commission in Madhya Pradesh has been running without a chairperson for six years. More than 30,000 cases are pending," he said.
"Girls are disappearing daily from the state, and crimes against women show no signs of stopping. If the govt was indeed concerned about women's welfare, they would have first set their own house in order."
He said that presently there are only 31 women MPs in the BJP out of 240 in the Lok Sabha. "Is this the truth about empowerment?" he asked. "Both the govt and the administration are in a deep slumber. And when it comes to politics, they are at the forefront for manipulating the Constitution in the name of women. Stop pretending to be benevolent in the name of women. Give answers, improve the system, and ensure justice," Singhar said.
