Farmers across the state have been facing the crisis of the

DAP

, a fertilizer used for sowing the rabi crop, including wheat, mustard and gram among others.

Union agriculture minister

Narendra Singh

Tomar had admitted the crisis while the chief minister

Shivraj Singh

Chouhan has maintained silence over the crisis.

Till two days ago, he was busy canvassing for the four byelections in the state.

There were even incidents of looting fertilizer bags in the districts of Chambal, the region represented by the Union agriculture minister.

A resident of Badi Piprol under Isagarh police station,

Dhanpal Yadav

consumed poison on Thursday evening.

By the time he was rushed to the district hospital, he died. His family alleged that Dhanpal was upset after he did not get DAP fertilizer. The police, however, denied it.

Nephew of the deceased

Vijay Pal Yadav

told media in the hospital on Thursday night that he was extremely upset. His last crop had failed and there was no fertilizer available for the sowing operations.

Yadav said, "For the past 15 days, he was trying hard to get some fertilizer but in vain. All his efforts to fetch the DAP failed.”

But Vivek Sharma, SHO of Ishagarh police station said, “It is yet to be established that the farmer ended life because of the issue of fertilizer. We are investigating to find the cause of the suspicious death.”

Jeera Bai, the woman farmer in Chattarpur, attempted to hang herself in a fertilizer warehouse on Thursday. She said that for the past many days she had been visiting the warehouse. “Every time I reach there, I was told to come later as there was no fertilizer available.”

She said in the absence of the DAP how would she prepare the farm field. “ The government must understand there is a limited time for sowing and it as to be completed within that period.”
