Couple dies after wall collapse due to heavy rain

Bhopal: A couple was killed after a mud wall of their room collapsed onto them in Jabalpur district.
The couple-- Ashok Dahiya, 43, and his wife Vimla Bai, 38—resided in Majhauli, 40km from the district headquarters. Following a heavy rainfall overnight, the wall of their kutcha (mud) room, which was adjacent to a neighbour's house, collapsed, bringing down the roof as well.
Ashok and Vimla were asleep in the room when the incident took place. They were buried under the debris of their collapsed room at around 5 am.
Neighbours arrived at the scene and managed to remove the debris, but both Ashok and Vimla were pronounced dead before they could be taken to the hospital.
BJP MLA Ajay Vishnoi visited the family to offer condolences. Majhauli tehsildar Aditya Janghela has announced a financial assistance of Rs four lakh each for the families of the deceased. An additional support was also provided for the repair of the damaged house.
Family members said that Ashok had planned to travel to Jabalpur in the morning. The rain had weakened the kutcha room's structure, leading to the fatal collapse. Ashok had intended to upgrade the room to a permanent structure after the rainy season.
Majhauli police said that Ashok's house had three rooms, two of which were permanent. Vipin, Ashok's elder son, and his wife were in one of the permanent rooms, while Ashok's mother and their children were in another.
