Cop Fined Rs 5,000 for Lapses in Initial Probe of Twisha Sharma Death Case

Times News NetworkBhopal: A month after the suspicious death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma at her in-laws’ residence in Katara Hills, DCP (Zone-2) penalised a sub-inspector for lapses in the initial investigation of the case.Sub-inspector Dinesh Sharma, posted at Katara Hills police station, has been fined Rs 5,000 for negligence in discharge of duty after a preliminary departmental inquiry found procedural lapses during the investigation. The action was taken with the approval of police commissioner Sanjay Kumar following an inquiry conducted by ACP Dr Rajneesh Kashyap.According to police, all material evidence related to the death should have been collected and submitted simultaneously during the post-mortem examination. However, the investigating officer allegedly delayed the submission of the ligature material used in the hanging by two days. The lapse had prompted allegations of negligence from the deceased’s family and drew criticism over the handling of the sensitive case.Based on the ACP’s report, DCP (Zone-2) Vikash Shahwal imposed the monetary penalty after obtaining the police commissioner’s approval.Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her in-laws’ house in Katara Hills on May 12. Katara Hills police registered an FIR on May 15 against her husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, under sections related to dowry death and cruelty. The case was transferred to CBI. Both accused are currently lodged in Bhopal Central Jail.The departmental action comes as the case completes one month on Friday, with the investigation still underway.
