Monday and Tuesday, the PCC delegates will gather for a meeting at the state Congress office here which will be headed and addressed by PROs (Pradesh Returning Officers) Rajesh Mishra who is a former MP and sitting Rajya Sabha member Pradeep Tamta. Newly appointed general secretary in-charge of state affairs Deepak Babaria will also reach Bhopal from New Delhi and convene the meeting.
Sources in the Congress said that at the end of the two-day meet, the PCC is likely to unanimously leave the appointment of new state president to AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi. Thereafter, the high-command will take the decision on the face that will lead the party against the might of the ruling BJP which has been in power for three terms.
The contest is majorly between party’s chief whip in Lok Sabha Jyotiraditya Scindia and veteran politician and former Union minister Kamal Nath. However, if Rahul Gandhi is satisfied with the party’s functioning under present state president Arun Yadav, then he could be asked to continue.
Senior leaders in the party told TOI that in case of a change in leadership, the high command could simultaneously appoint four or five executive presidents, one from each factional group, to keep everyone happy.
