Woman among 3 held with 8 kg charas
Bhopal: In a major action against drug peddlers, the Bhopal Crime Branch on Thursday nabbed two men and a woman travelling in a premium sedan car on charges of possession and distribution of illegal charas (hashish). Police seized 8.4 kg of charas, cash totalling Rs 2 lakh, five mobile phones, and a sedan car, with a combined estimated value of Rs 8.6 crore.
Additional DCP (Crime Branch) Shailendra Singh Chouhan said that following directives from the DGP MP, the Bhopal Crime Branch intensified its crackdown on illegal drug activities. During this operation, a reliable informant tipped off the police that suspected drug traffickers in a sedan car bearing a Delhi registration number were waiting to make a sale near New Vicky Dhaba in Bhopal's Barkheda Salam area. According to the informant, the traffickers—two men seated in front and a woman in the back—were allegedly waiting for a buyer. Acting on this information, Crime Branch teams promptly mobilised, intercepting and apprehending the suspects on the spot.
Additional DCP Chouhan said that upon arrest, the suspects identified themselves as Aamir Qureshi, 52, a resident of Guru Nanak Colony, Bhopal, his wife Jahida Qureshi, 48, and Prateek Mishra, 36, a resident of BHEL Nagar, Ayodhya Bypass, Bhopal. Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, police uncovered a significant haul: 8.4 kg of charas, along with Rs 2 lakh in cash, five mobile phones, and the premium sedan used in the operation. The total seizure value is estimated at Rs 8.6 crore. The Crime Branch registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and launched a comprehensive investigation into the source of the charas.
Suspects' Criminal Records
While Aamir Qureshi has a past record for NDPS-related offences at Mangalwara police station, records for Prateek Mishra and Jahida Qureshi are currently being retrieved via the ICJS system. Further interrogation is underway to trace the origins and intended recipients of the seized contraband.
