Bhopal: Two people, including an eight-year-old girl, died and 25 others were injured when a tractor-trolley carrying 32 devotees overturned in Ganesh Ghati, about 40 kilometers from the Raisen district headquarters, on Tuesday evening, the police said.
The accident took place around 7 pm between Garhi and Mudiyakheda as residents of the tribal village Bhiladia, under Gairatganj tehsil, were returning from a religious function at Pathariya Dham. The speeding tractor-trolley lost control on the ghat section and flipped over, trapping many passengers — mostly women and children — underneath, according to the authorities.

Passers-by and police teams rushed to the scene, pulled the injured from beneath the vehicle, and alerted medical authorities. Ayodhya Bai Adivasi, a 60-year-old woman, died at the spot. The girl, identified as Jia, succumbed to her injuries during treatment at Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal on Wednesday morning.
Of the 25 injured, seven with serious injuries were transferred to the district hospital, while the rest received care at Gairatganj civil hospital. Women and children made up the majority of those hurt, the police said. All victims belonged to the tribal community and worked as daily-wage laborers.
Senior district officials, including the collector, additional superintendent of police, and health authorities, visited the hospital late Tuesday night to oversee medical arrangements and monitor treatment. The police registered a case, and an investigation into the accident's cause is ongoing.
