Bhopal: Two people, including an elderly woman, lost their lives in separate
road accidents on Thursday. Police have registered both cases and handed over the bodies to their families. The vehicles involved in the accidents remain unidentified and the police are reviewing CCTV camera footage from the areas to ascertain their identities.
According to police, the deceased, Jagpati Bai (70), a resident of Omanagar, Arera Hills, had gone to collect prasad at a Ganesh procession feast on Thursday night. Around 9:15 pm, while standing by the roadside in front of the Vidhan Sabha building, an unidentified speeding car hit her. She was rushed to Hamidia hospital, where doctors declared her dead shortly after. Acting on information, Arera Hills police registered a case and handed the body to her family after the post-mortem. Efforts are on to trace the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
In another incident reported at Govindpura police station, the deceased Deepu (57), a resident of Anna Nagar in Govindpura, worked in a private firm. He was crossing the road at Anna Nagar Square around 5 am when an unidentified vehicle struck him. He was rushed to a private hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. Acting on information, Govindpura police registered a case and handed over the body to his family after the post-mortem.
CCTV footage from the square is being scanned to identify the vehicle responsible for the accident.
