34L voters deleted in MP’s revised final electoral rolls after SIR
Bhopal: A total of 34.25 lakh voter names were removed from Madhya Pradesh's electoral rolls after the final voters' list was published on Saturday, completing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The state's electorate came down from 5,74,06,143 before SIR to 5,39,81,065.As The Times of India reported on Jan 23, nearly 34 lakh names were likely to be struck off in the final rolls due to the absence of claims for restoration, an assessment that now broadly bore out.
According to the chief electoral officer, Madhya Pradesh, Sanjeev Kumar Jha, the SIR was conducted in multiple phases over nearly four months in line with directives of the Election Commission of India. Claims and objections were received between December 23 and January 22, after which electoral registration officers verified and disposed of them through speaking orders by February 14. The final rolls were prepared with January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. The revision involved a door-to-door survey by 71,930 booth-level officers, supported by district and assembly-level election officials, volunteers, political parties and the media. Of the 5.74 crore voters, enumeration forms were obtained from over 5.31 crore electors, which were fully digitised. The exercise identified voters who were deceased, permanently shifted, absent or registered in multiple places.Data showed that urban constituencies accounted for a large share of deletions. Govindpura in Bhopal recorded the highest reduction at 79,089 voters, followed by Indore-5 (72,885), Narela (69,589) and Indore-1 (66,551). Gwalior East and Bhopal Madhya also figured among the constituencies with major deletions.Officials said the draft rolls showed a sharper drop, but the final list recorded a net addition of 8.49 lakh voters after valid inclusion claims were allowed. Copies of the final electoral rolls were provided to recognised political parties, and the list was published at all polling stations and on the CEO's website for public access.
