BHOPAL: A car fell into a water-filled quarry near the Aredi village area of Ayodhya Nagar on Saturday evening, killing the driver and injuring 2 others travelling with him. The car reportedly broke through fencing and a fence pole while negotiating a turn and plunged nearly 35 feet into the quarry.
The injured persons are undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Ayodhya Nagar police later retrieved the car using a crane.

According to police, the deceased, Rohit Mali, 24, a resident of Maholi village in the Chhola area, was driving the car. He worked with an online cab service. He took the vehicle on rent for Rs 500 per day. On Saturday evening, Rohit came to Ayodhya Nagar to meet his acquaintances Arvind Malviya and Ajay Bharti, who live in Aredi.
After meeting them, Rohit was driving the car from Aredi towards the Ayodhya Bypass with Arvind and Ajay. At around 5:30 pm, when the 3 reached near Shankar Quarry, the car lost control at a turn and veered towards the quarry.
The vehicle broke through fencing and a pole and plunged about 35 feet into the water below. At the time of the accident, Rohit Mali was driving, Ajay Bharti was seated beside him, and Arvind Malviya was sitting in the rear seat.
Ajay and Arvind somehow managed to get out of the car, but Rohit got trapped inside. Doctors declared Rohit dead on arrival, while Ajay and Arvind are still undergoing treatment.
Eyewitnesses said the car was speeding from Aredi towards the bypass. While negotiating a turn, the driver lost control, broke the fencing and pole, and the car was flung into the air before plunging into the quarry. Cops said there was around 10 feet of water in the quarry. The car fell front-first in the water, leaving only the rear portion visible above the surface. Further probe is on.
