Bengaluru: Abhishek Yeligar weighed in with his experience to battle past Ayush R Shetty in the men’s singles final at the State badminton ch- ampionships here on Friday.
Rujula Ramu (Patel’s Inn) emerge champion among women with a convincing 21-8, 21-11 win over Alfiya Riyaz Basari in the title round. However, Neysa Cariappa (PPBA) denied Rujula a double as she clinched the U-19 crown with a 14-21, 21-14, 21-18 scoreline.
In the men’s final, Ayush, who was eyeing a singles double, drew level after dropping the first game.
But Yeligar recovered in time to prevail 21-13, 17-21, 21-17. There was consolation for Ayush (PPBA) as he took home the U-19 trophy after his opponent Aruj Maheswari retired while trailing 3-1 in the opening game.
Sai Pratheek and Ashwini Bhat won double crowns in the doubles category. While Sai and Suhas V beat Nithin HV and Vaibhaav Vaibhaav 21-17, 21-18 in the men’s final, Ashwini and Shikha Gautam (YPBA) downed Apeksha Nayak and Ramya Venkatesh 21-7 21-14 for the women’s doubles crown.
Later, Sai Pratheek and Ashwini combined to clinch the mixed doubles title, prevailing over
Kiran Kumar and Apeksha Nayak 21-17, 5-3 (retd).
