bangalore: four top women theatre activists will be honoured by chief minister s.m. krishna at the valedictory function of national womens' theatre festival, akka, in mysore on november 24. speaking to reporters on saturday, kannada and culture secretary c.s. kedar said that karnataka was using the opportunity to honour local talent in the presence of theatre stalwarts from 10 states who would participate.
the personalities to be honoured are prema karanth, chindodi leela, r. nagarathnamma and subhadramma mansur. the festival, organised by state-sponsored theatre repertory nataka karnataka rangayana will be inaugurated by jnanpeeth awardee krishna sobthi on november 18. ``it is the first festival of such magnitude with a theme of women empowerment. rs 20 lakh will be spent for the festival. normally such events do not happen outside delhi, so we have taken it up as a challenge to prove that mysore can host it,'' rangayana director s. prasanna said.
