​Voices of Time opens at IME on Feb 1;Teen-led exhibition explores the history of recorded sound

Remember listening to music on your Walkman or MP3 player? From early mechanical sound devices, gramophones, and radios to speculative brain-responsive technologies, listening practices have evolved alongside society. Voices of Time, an exhibition, traces the history of recorded sound from wax cylinders to cassettes, journeying across time, communities and innovations. The Indian Music Experience Museum (IME) at JP Nagar, Bengaluru is hosting the exhibition from Feb 1, 2026, with the display continuing until March 15. The exhibition is curated and executed entirely by IME's Youth Advisory Board (YAB), a cohort of 14–17-year-olds, with the programme managed by the ReReeti Foundation. Preema John, Museum Director, IME, said the programme is designed to integrate young people as changemakers within cultural organizations by providing behind-the-scenes exposure to how a museum works, while nurturing leadership. YAB led two interactive guided walkthroughs on the opening day, blending storytelling, role play and a short skit.
