This auto driver is upset with CM
BANGALORE: We fret and fume when we’re stalled at signals to make way for VIP convoys. Autorickshaw driver Gangadhara Gowda took it to the next level and showered the choicest of abuses on policemen escorting a VIP car on Palace Road on Thursday afternoon.
“I’ve seen many chief ministers and ministers on the roads. I don’t care for this convoy, whoever the VIP is in the big car,” he reportedly told policemen.

He didn’t know the VIP in the big car was chief minister BS Yeddyurappa himself.
For his pains, he was taken into custody, reprimanded and let off with a warning. Nobody in the police force wanted to comment on the incident. Instead, there were strong denials when The Times of India contacted them about the incident.
Around 3.30pm, Gowda, 40, from Laggere and a native of Nagamangala in Mandya district, was driving his auto on Palace Road and got trapped in the middle of a VIP convoy.
Police in escort vehicles asked him to give way, but he ignored them. When stopped, he started abusing policemen. When police told it the CM was in the VIP car, he flared up even more.
TIMES VIEW
At first look, one might dismiss the autorickshaw driver’s outburst against the CM as one of bravado, but all of us, deep within, share his anger.
Why should citizens get stuck to facilitate a smooth VIP movement? Agreed, roads are not wide enough to dedicate a lane to VIPs; agreed, again, the vehicles-per-road ratio is badly skewed. Instead of brusquely shooing motorists off and halting traffic completely, cops must clear one lane for VIPs at least five minutes early and cushion the blow.
