BANGALORE: It may not have been stardust from the big screen, but voters of Basavanagudi were in for a surprise on Thursday morning when 30 of their favourite small screen artistes took out a rally in support of co-artiste Ravi Kiran, who's contesting on a KJP ticket. Ravi Kiran, a veteran actor, is taking on bigwigs like B K Chandrashekhar (Congress) and Ravi Subramanyam (BJP).

The day-long rally - from 9.15am to 4.45pm - saw the artistes shaking hands with residents.
And as expected, the women recognized the stars of their afternoon soaps -- Sunitha Shetty, Siri, Nikhita Shetty, Rajeshwari, Sundarashri, Rashmi, Tanuja, Ramesh Pandith, Kitty, Hamsaraju… Many homemakers invited them in for breakfast, coffee, tea, and even lunch. "I've brought the party from zero level to fighting level,'' was Ravi's dialogue. He's promised to ease traffic congestion and provide basic amenities to residents within three months, and also widow and old age pension. "People recognize me, especially the women. It's a blessing," says Ravi.
