Short-cuts lead to accidents
BANGALORE: Hosur Road has a problem of plenty many bus shelters, but many more places where buses stop. Pedestrians have the worst deal and so do residents who have been pleading for civic amenities. Right from Bommanahalli and Begur Cross, there are bus shelters at regular intervals. But, commuters wait a little ahead of them as most buses would rather stop there.

Though there are subways, people prefer to cross the road.
Near Thirumagondanahalli, where two schoolchildren were hit by a speeding bus on Monday, villagers say its the fourth accident in the past two months. B Dayanand, a resident of Thirumagondanahalli, says One bus stand is in Old Chandapura and the other is in Neralur both 1 km from the village. Who will walk to these places? Most people cross the highway to catch a bus. On May 16, a speeding BMTC bus killed two persons and injured six when they were waiting at Singasandra near Electronic City.
Senior citizens and schoolchildren cannot cross the road as vehicles are always zooming by, Manjunath N, a resident who travels to Hosur every day for work. Dayanand says people dont use the bus shelters because they are sandwiched between the service road and the highway.
