BENGALURU: Several noted writers and academics, on Monday, urged the new government to immediately scrap the New Education Policy (NEP) and school textbooks that were revised during the BJP regime.

A delegation under the banner Samana Manaskara Okkoota (forum of like-minded people) met CM Siddaramaiah and submitted a memorandum seeking reversal of several decisions of the BJP government in the field of education.

The prominent demand was scrapping of textbooks revised by the committee headed by Rohith Chakrathirtha. “Set up an expert committee immdiately to revise these textbooks,” the delegation said. “If that will take time, let schools continue with textbooks revised by the Baraguru Ramachandrappa committee. ” The delegation also said NEP was “thrust” upon Kannadigas by the previous BJP government.

“All changes made in schools and higher education under NEP should be reversed forthwith,” they said.
