Rangoli opens its innings as theatre hub
BANGALORE: The Metro station on MG Road is not just about a train that ferries you to work and back. The boulevard has become a cultural hub with exhibition and sale of crafts, photographic exhibition on Bangalore, and also with a small theatre.
On Saturday, the first play was performed at Rangasthala, a 100-seater auditorium. Playwright Poile Sengupta's play 'Mangalam', an Indian-English play, was performed at the Rangoli Centre.

Set in a Tam-Bram family, the play explores the plight of a woman in the clutches of patriarchy. The play, which begins with the death of its central character Mangala, a middle-aged homemaker and mother of five, tells her story through the conversations of her widowed elder sister, husband, daughter-in-law in their points of view.
The 90-minute play with its portrayal of a middle-class family was watched by well-known writer Shashi Deshpande and theatreperson Jagdish Raja.
