Pourakarmikas' day out

BANGALORE: Members of Satya Yuga Association at J P Park ward were on padayatra of a different kind on Sunday. They went across the streets to honour the 100-odd pourakarmikas who worked for their ward.
Not many pourakarmikas turned up for the function which was arranged for them, citing `duty' hours. However, members were upset over the absence of local BJP corporator B R Nanjundappa, despite repeated invites.
"We sent three invites to him. But, he did not turn up. Strange that so many pourakarmikas also absented themselves from the function, despite it being a Sunday,'' association president M R Savanur told TOI. Interestingly, the local Congressman Ganganna won the local hearts instead, joining these members on the padayatra and honoring the pourakarmikas.
This was the second such function organized by the same association at this ward.
