BENGALURU: Civic evangelist V Ravichandar told TOI the CM's suggestion was a setback to the move to provide pedestrians and cyclists ample space. He said: “One hopes the CM intends to give the city wider, more usable footpaths than we have. Our vulnerable pedestrians need attention.“
The expert said TenderSure roads provision utilities below the footpath for easier lifelong maintenance rather than have them below the road.

He said while space for pedestrians might look huge in places, it has to be viewed for the entire stretch -with trees and built elements like toilets and bus stops. But CiSTUP adviser Vivek Menon supported the CM's move. “The carriageway should be 12m on busy roads like St Mark's. If officials plan properly, then the road can be constructed with enough footpath width which includes utility ducts. Vittal Mallya Road can be taken as an example to plan road development,“ he said.
