No proposal to delay civic polls: Karnataka State Election Commission

Bengaluru: Karnataka State Election Commission (SEC) said it has not sought any extension or postponement of elections to five city corporations under Greater Bengaluru Authority despite a request from state govt to defer the timeline.As per a Supreme Court directive, the election process must be completed by June 30. SEC said it has already completed key preparatory steps. "As per the commission's directions, final electoral rolls for 369 wards have been published on April 18," SEC said in its statement. The SEC release said state govt, through the chief secretary, urged the commission to extend the deadline to Sept 30, citing census work between April 16 and May 15, special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by Election Commission and deployment of staff for examination duty.SEC said it placed govt's request before Supreme Court, but made it clear in its affidavit that it has not independently sought more time or any postponement of polls.
