Bengaluru: Second seed Bharat Raghav defeated Sanskar Saraswat 13-21, 21-7, 21-17 to claim the boys singles title at the Krishna Khaitan all-India junior (U-19) ranking badminton tournament in Panchkula on Wednesday.
Haryana’s Bharat, who trains at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy here, lost the first game but recovered swiftly to floor Sanskar of Rajasthan in 38 minutes.
In the girls’ singles, third seed and another PPBA trainee from Haryana, Devika Sihag, lost a tough final to Tara Shah of Maharashtra 21-12, 16-21, 17-21 in 54 minutes.
Karnataka’s Tushar Suveer and Nicholas Nathan Raj, who were seeded third, did themselves a world of good, rallying to oust Arsh Mohammad (UP) and Sanskar Saraswat 18-21, 21-14, 21-19 to clinch the boys’ doubles crown in 45 minutes.
With the tournament results set to determine the participants at the National junior selection trials, the duo, who too are with the PPBA, stand a good chance of making the grade.
Tushar and Nicholas had beaten top seeds Uneeth Krishna BV of Telangana and Shashank Chhetri of Uttarakhand 21-16, 21-17 in the semifinals.

Semis: bt Shriyanshi Valishetty (TS) 13-21, 22-20, 21-7. Quarters: bt 6-Rakshitha Sree S (TN) 9-21, 21-6, 21-19.
