Newly resurfaced MG Road dug up again, raises coordination concerns in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Weeks after MG Road was resurfaced, a portion of the newly asphalted stretch near the Public Utility Building was dug up by workers of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), triggering concerns of a lack of coordination among civic agencies in the city. The road surface was allegedly removed Wednesday to restore access to a manhole that had been covered up during asphalting work.
The incident has once again highlighted recurring issues involving roadworks being taken up soon after the completion of civic projects. Residents and commuters questioned how a manhole could be overlooked during resurfacing on one of the city’s key roads.
Atif Mohammed, executive engineer of Bengaluru Central City Corporation’s Shantinagar division, said BWSSB had raised the level of all manhole openings before the asphalting work except one. “This is not exactly road-cutting work. The manhole cover will be raised and the stretch will be restored in a few days,” he said.
However, he admitted that BWSSB carried out the work without prior permission.
