Motor mechanic, shop owner to pay hefty fine for kids’ joyrides in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A day after videos showing separate incidents of two pre-teens riding gearless scooters in and around Magadi Road went viral on social media, traffic police Tuesday booked the owner of one of the vehicles and the father of the other minor.First, police booked Afzar Pasha, an electric motor mechanic in JJ Nagar, for handing over his gearless scooter to his minor son, who rode with five more minors as pillion on Padarayanapura Main Road near Goripalya. The photo showing the six children astride on the scooter went viral, drawing criticism and concern from netizens."Pasha visited his younger sister's residence in KP Agrahara. While elders were busy inside the house, Pasha's 11-year-old son took the two-wheeler's keys and came out. Taking his cousins and children from neighbouring houses, he went on a ride," police said. Police also booked a businessman, Palani from Nandini Layout, who owns a shop in Manjunathanagar. "Palani took the boy's father, a carpenter, to his shop for some work. When Palani was busy with the boy's father, the 12-year-old took the keys and enjoyed a ride," police said.Since cops seized both the scooters, Palani and Pasha will have to appear before court and pay prescribed fines (at least Rs 20,000 each) to get back their scooters.
