Lawyer attempts suicide in court
In a shocking incident, an advocate attempted suicide in the presence of Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph on Monday.
Vasanth, from Eslur in Sakaleshpura taluk, allegedly drank half a bottle of poison before entering the courtroom.
As the court proceedings began, Vasanth stood up with a document in his hands. He suddenly slumped to the ground and started frothing.
The court staff shifted him to a hospital on the court premises.
Later, he was rushed to Bowring Hospital. ���He had not consumed all the poison in the bottle. In the evening, he was shifted to Victoria Hospital,������ a senior police officer said.
In his hand-written petition, Vasanth has accused Sakleshpura Rural police of harassing his family over a criminal case. Vasanth stated he has been named as one of the accused in the murder of Hoovanna Gowda on September 30, 2007.
The four-page petition referred to the chief justice stated: ���I have requested all senior police officials to protect my family. A false case has been registered against me and my family. My ill-fated family is facing all types of problems. I apologize to my family for taking this extreme step. Please hand over the case to CoD.������
He had also petitioned the governor on this matter. Vasanth was practising under advocate Srinivas in
Sheshadripuram.
