K’taka not to wait for NEETresults for CET counselling
Bengaluru: With the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test counselling likely to be delayed, Karnataka will go ahead with its Common Entrance Test (CET) seat selection process without waiting for NEET results.
Usually CET counselling is scheduled in such a way that it goes in tandem with medical seat counselling so that students get to pick the best possible seats. However, with NEET getting cancelled and the retest scheduled only for June 21, the entire calendar has been derailed.
“We have therefore decided to go ahead with CET counselling in June itself. There could be around 200 engineering seats that are likely to fall vacant when students start picking NEET seats. Those seats that fall vacant would be added in the second round of CET counselling, and all students will be allowed to participate in that round to compete for those seats,” explained MC Sudhakar, minister for higher education.
“We have also discussed the matter with private colleges. They have agreed to this idea. They have also assured that any fees they charge will be returned to students when they upgrade the seats,” he added.
Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is yet to decide when the CET results are to be announced. “The PU-2 results have been announced. The retest of the practical exam for the agriculturist quota has to be conducted. We are yet to decide on when to announce the results,” he said.
