BANGALORE: Take your children to a nearby park in your locality and watch an international movie. Children's India, a non-profit organization, is bringing to the doorstep of kids a year-long film festival -- Children's films at their doorstep.
The event, which was earlier scheduled to begin on January 20, has been postponed and will kickstart on February 5.
The organization will screen films for children in parks and open-air locations every weekend at 6.30 pm.
N R Nanjunde Gowda, president of Children's India, said, "This is the first such initiative taken in the country. We will screen 100 internationally acclaimed films throughout the state during this one year." The screening schedule will be announced every three months, Gowda said, adding, "We will choose movies depending on the kind of audience present in that locality. This will help children understand and enjoy the film."
THEATRICS AT THEATRE
Interestingly, children will be encouraged to showcase their talent in theatrics, dance, storytelling and other such performing arts before every show. "Celebrities from various fields, including films, sports and arts will address the audience at all shows," Gowda said.
KIDS NEED GOOD COVERAGE TOO
Stating that more than 1,000 films are produced every year, Gowda said it is important that children are given good coverage. "There is a huge population of children in the world and they have to be given an equal share as other films in the visual media. Hence, this initiative," he said.
Since many of these children couldn't afford to attend film festivals, the organization decided to take the theatre to their doorstep for them to watch films made for them along with their parents, friends and teachers.
