BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court has dismissed a petition by two people accused of defrauding e-commerce giant Amazon of over Rs 69 lakh.

The accused, Sourish Bose and Deepanvita Ghosh, had requested the court to cancel an FIR and a magistrate court order filed against them.

However, Justice M Nagaprasanna rejected their plea, calling it an example of "modern age crime."

The case dates back to 2017, when an Amazon employee uncovered their alleged scam. According to the complaint, Bose would order expensive products from Amazon using his bank account and have them delivered to Ghosh’s address. Within 24 hours, he would request a return, obtain a refund, and allegedly replace the original items with cheap imitations before sending them back to Amazon.

The prosecution stated that the return addresses were linked to Ghosh’s residence and other locations in Bengaluru. Bose and Ghosh face charges of cheating under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and online fraud under Section 66D of the Information Technology Act.

The high court refused to cancel the FIR, allowing the case to proceed.
