Karnataka's longest inland cable-stayed bridge inaugurated

The Sigandur Bridge, 2.25 km long, was inaugurated today, connecting Ambaragodlu and Kalasavalli across the Sharavathi backwaters in Shivamogga.

Bridge built to cut travel time

The bridge will reduce travel time to Sigandur by two hours. Earlier, visitors had to rely on barges with long wait times to cross the river.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the bridge in the presence of local leaders, marking the successful completion of the long-awaited project.

Major engineering feat with unique design

It’s Karnataka’s first extradosed balanced cantilever bridge with 740 meters supported by cables and built on a pile foundation with dual lanes and footpaths.

Rs 456 crore project began in 2018

Launched in 2018 by Nitin Gadkari, the bridge cost ₹456.6 crore, with ₹378.3 crore spent on construction alone. Only two of 604 segments remained recently.

Boost to tourism and local economy

The bridge will bring better connectivity to the temple town of Sigandur, boosting tourism and helping the people of Malnad access faster road links.

Big relief for locals

The bridge ends long waits for ferries and cuts travel time by 2 hours, making life easier for thousands of villagers who had to depend on slow barge transport for daily travel.
