Passengers are seen walking past the renovated Bengaluru East Railway Station ahead of its reopening on May 25. The station has been redeveloped by South Western Railway as part of major suburban rail upgrades in East Bengaluru.

The station has been redeveloped under South Western Railway’s ongoing infrastructure improvement plan, focused on strengthening suburban rail connectivity and improving operational efficiency in the Bengaluru East section.

The redevelopment is part of the Cantonment–Whitefield quadrupling project, which adds two additional tracks to enhance suburban rail capacity and improve connectivity across east Bengaluru.

The project includes two extra railway tracks aimed at increasing line capacity and ensuring smoother movement of trains across the busy east Bengaluru corridor.

The Bengaluru East Railway Station remained closed since March after platforms were dismantled to enable major track expansion and redevelopment work at the site.

During the closure period, several express, passenger, and MEMU services were disrupted due to ongoing construction and platform redevelopment activities.

Officials say the upgraded station infrastructure is expected to ease congestion and improve punctuality across suburban rail services once operations resume.

The redevelopment is expected to enhance connectivity between Bengaluru Cantonment, Byappanahalli, and the IT corridor, strengthening suburban rail travel in east Bengaluru.
