Karnataka assembly polls: Congress screening committee begins consultation on candidates selection

BENGALURU: The Congress has undertaken the process of selecting candidates for the assembly polls, as part of which the state screening committee started a three-day consultation on Sunday.
The screening committee headed by senior Congress functionary Mohan Prakash on Sunday met five KPCC working presidents separately and discussed the first list prepared for their respective regions.

The pradesh election committee (PEC) that met on February 2 had prepared the first list based on the applications received from the aspirants. The screening committee prepares a shortlist and sends it to the central election committee (CEC), which will finalise the candidates.
“The screening committee is expected to send the short list to CEC soon after the ongoing consultation process and the final list of candidates is expected to be released in phases from early March,” said KPCC working president Saleem Ahmed.
The screening committee will meet senior functionaries including KPCC president DK Shivakumar, CLP leader Siddaramaiah, leader of opposition in legislative council BK Hariprasad, campaign committee chairman MB Patil, and former KPCC president G Parameswar on Monday separately . Following this, an open meeting of party MLAs and MLCs will be held.
On Tuesday, the panel will meet office bearers and ticket aspirants.
