bangalore: apj abdul kalam, who quits office today as principal scientific advisor to the government, is known for his simplicity and leadership qualities. dr v.k aatre, scientific advisor to defence minister, who spoke to this newspaper from new delhi on sunday, termed kalam as an excellent manager, who was always open to ideas. "his room was open to everyone.he respected difference of opinion and what better place than iisc can he find to fulfil his mission," aatre said. dr kota harinarayana, programme director (lca), ada, said that kalam injected his experiences from slv-3 and missile technologies to the lca project, which came in as an asset. "his leadership qualities were excellent. he wanted technology spin-offs to reach the rural population," kota said. prof govardhan mehta, iisc director said that he is yet to receive an official communication with regard to kalam's plans to be associated with the institute. "i did receive a letter from department of space on a professorship. we have lots of projects from drdo and kalam's association will be a stimulant to our decision-making," mehta said.
