Industry bodies see little disruption

Industry bodies such as

CII Karnataka

and FKCCI say that overall the transition to the GST regime has been smooth with no major complaints from small and medium enterprises art of these organisations.

One of the reasons could be that Karnataka has trained officers in the system, done outreach programmes about 6-7 months ago in

and has engaged with trade bodies to keep them updated about the law. Aravind Vivekanandan, assistant commissioner of central taxes, mentioned earlier this week that 90% of industries in the state are on the GST network.

“Right from enrolment and migration to GST by dealers, Karnataka has been rated No. 1 in the country. But a small percentage is yet to enrol, mainly because of certain technical processes in the por tal. All traders are clear about their registration because of the programmes conducted on GST awareness by FKCCI in coordination with the commercial tax department and other trade bodies,“ B T Manohar, chairman, state tax committee, Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FKCCI), said.

says he talked to auto dealers and the hotel industry on Saturday and is yet to come across any instances of disruption. “In fact, the dealers are happy,“ he said.

“I checked with our members. There is absolutely no issue in organized trade. They are GST ready and having normal sales in malls, showrooms and franchisees,“ K Ravi, president, FKCCI.

But experts added that the unorganized sector is facing problems as they are still not ready with their IT systems.
