Guard, wife flee with Rs 25 lakh from Bengaluru employer’s house
Bengaluru: A family’s trust in their domestic workers from Nepal proved costly after cash amounting to Rs 25 lakh, kept in a bedroom cupboard, was allegedly stolen from their house on May 27.
The suspects have been identified as security guard Bhuvan Bista and domestic help Seeta Bista. According to the complaint filed by CH Subbareddy, a contractor, the couple had been working in his house for the past month and lived in a room there.
Subbareddy had withdrawn large amounts of cash from the bank over the past 15-20 days to pay wages to labourers working for him. The complainant stated that he had locked Rs 25 lakh inside a cupboard in the bedroom, with its key kept beneath clothes in another cupboard.
Seeta, who handled the household chores, including sweeping and cleaning, had free access to all the rooms in the house and allegedly observed where the family kept the cash and cupboard keys.
According to the complainant, the couple stayed in the house along with their children, behaved politely, and appeared trustworthy. On May 27, around 9am, Subbareddy left the house for work while his wife stayed at home. When he returned around 4pm, the workers were nowhere to be found and the door to the room allotted to them was found open.
Suspicious, the couple checked the bedroom cupboard and found that the Rs 25 lakh cash was missing. Attempts to contact the workers failed as their mobile phones were switched off. A case has been registered under BNS Section 306 at Amruthahally police station, and efforts are on to nab the couple.
Woman found murdered, gold chain missing
A 23-year-old woman working with the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Chikkaballapur, was found murdered with her throat slit near her residence Thursday night.
The deceased is B Pushpa, who was originally from Bengaluru. She had married a private company employee, Bharat, three years ago and lived in a rented house near Kanadavarapete, police said. The incident came to light when members of the public alerted police about a woman lying dead near the fort area. “The body was found around 1km from her house. Her throat was slit and her gold chain was missing,” an investigating officer said, adding that they suspect that someone known to her was involved in the crime.
