BANGALORE: The giant 9 ft cricket bat which received M.F. Husain’s artistic touch was auctioned at a whopping Rs 7.1 lakh in the city on Friday.
The proceeds will go to nurture cricket talent in the city. Kalpana Shah of Contemporary Art Gallery, Sarjan Plaza at Worli, Mumbai, bought the bat. A virtual Who’s Who descended on Husain Sankalana at the launch ceremony. Dressed in blue, the buzzword seemed to be cricket. MF Husain painted Little Master Sachin Tendulkar and his team against the tricolour background.
Husain said the idea of setting up an art club was to promote the production of short films. Over 75 personalities have already become members of the art club who will be entitled to a 10 per cent discount on works sold at Husain Sankalana.
