BENGALURU: A gang of five persons, including a caretaker nurse with a private hospital, has been arrested for allegedly murdering an ex-serviceman at his Gautham Colony residence in Domlur on Wednesday.

The main suspect is caretaker

Babu

Naik, a resident of Marathahalli. The other accused are his brother Murali Naik and brothers-in-law Gajendra Naik, Rajendra Naik, and Devendra Naik, all residents of Ramakuppam of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh. Police said Babu was the caretaker of the mother of the deceased, Suresh alias Jude, when she was bedridden. After she passed away, he continued his proximity with Suresh.

Recently, during a casual conversation, Suresh told Babu he had sold one of his properties for Rs 50 lakh and was planning to purchase a building for Rs 75 lakh. Believing he could get a lot of money and valuables from Suresh’s residence if he murdered him, Babu hatched the plan with the four others.

All five entered Suresh’s residence late on Tuesday night. They initially asked him to hand over all the cash and valuables he had. But when Suresh refused, they allegedly hit his head with a blunt object. He fell to the floor and bled to death. The five men searched the residence but were only able to find around Rs 5,000 in cash and an iPhone.

Police noticed that Babu was missing after the murder. Bhimashankar S Guled,

DCP

, formed three teams to crack the case and one of them managed to nab Babu near Marathahalli. Cops said he confessed and the four others were picked up based on his statement. Further probe is on.
